Binghamton, NY – Dan Lamb today released the following statement after the United States Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act.

“Now that the constitutional questions have been settled, it’s time to move forward and work together to improve the Affordable Care Act. Provisions that stop insurance companies from charging women more for the same coverage, denying coverage to the sick, or capping benefits for those with chronic illnesses are positive steps forward. The law provides coverage to millions of young people who can now stay on their parents’ insurance, and strengthens Medicare benefits by lowering the cost of prescription drugs and providing free preventive care. Starting from scratch, and repealing these provisions for political reasons would hurt millions of New Yorkers who deserve decent health care.

“The hot rhetoric and politics surrounding this issue must give way to a rational, consensus building discussion. Like many laws, the Affordable Care Act can be improved. We’ve got to do more to get medical costs under control, while protecting the doctor-patient relationship. We have to bring doctors, hospitals, insurance companies, small businesses, middle-class families and all other stakeholders into the discussion.

“If elected, I won’t be focused on scoring political points by putting the healthcare of millions of Americans on the chopping block. Instead, I’ll seek to work across party lines to make sensible improvements to the law. Richard Hanna’s support for repealing health care makes for great partisan rhetoric, but doing so would take us backwards. It’s the worst possible approach to addressing a very complex issue.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Local attorney Diane DiStefano filed petitions for the Democratic, Working Families, and Independence Party lines Wednesday as part of her campaign for Chenango County Court Judge. She is endorsed by the Democratic Party and Working Families Party of New York.

“I had a wonderful time meeting the people of Chenango County. The response was overwhelmingly positive and I look forward to meeting many more Chenango County residents between now and November. I would also like to thank the many other people that circulated petitions on my behalf,” said DiStefano.

DiStefano far exceeded the number of required signatures which she believes shows that Chenango County voters are ready to move in the right direction. The signature process is a fundamental component of our electoral system.

Diane holds a law degree from Albany Law School and currently maintains a private practice in Norwich while serving as Assistant Chenango County Public Defender. She is the only candidate with prior judicial experience having previously served as Guilford Town Justice.
